Opening suited aces by position

Suited aces are among the easiest hands to open, except from the earliest seats.

Suited aces keep their value because they make the nut flush and the ace blocks strong hands. This is how often our solution book opens each of them when everyone folds to the seat (8-max, with ante), at 30 BB:

And the same at 20 BB:

What the tables show

UTG across stacks

The earliest seat is where the stack matters. This is the UTG open share of the low suited aces:

Hand12 BB15 BB20 BB30 BB40 BB50 BB100 BB
A2s0%2%76%68%24%24%18%
A3s46%50%98%96%48%46%32%
A4s94%98%100%100%74%74%44%
A5s100%100%100%100%96%98%58%

At 12 BB A2s opens 0% from UTG and A4s 94%. At 100 BB A2s is 18%.

Why they open

A suited ace can make the nut flush, and holding the ace means opponents have fewer strong ace hands. That is why these hands are opened more readily than offsuit hands of similar rank. The tables above tell you how far to push it from each seat.
